Statewide Speech and Language Service (Outreach Service)
About the Service
The Statewide Speech and Language Service, also known as the Outreach Service, is provided by the Department of Education to support public primary schools across Western Australia.
Our team of Speech and Language Consultants (SLCs) work to build the capability of educators to support students with language learning difficulties. Our goal is to support all children—especially those with speech and language difficulties—to successfully access the curriculum.
We support Government primary schools throughout the south east metropolitan area, and make scheduled visits to the Goldfields regions, including Kalgoorlie, North Kalgoorlie, and Esperance.
How We Support Schools
Support is tailored to the specific needs of each school. Our Speech and Language Consultants can assist through consultation and professional learning.
Consultation
- Consultations can be one-on-one, team-based or whole-school sessions with school leaders, educators, and support staff.
- Consultations may include modelling, observation and feedback, collaborative planning and data analysis. They are designed to help educators apply evidence-based oral language practices in their classrooms.
Professional Learning
- We offer professional learning sessions on the connections between speech, language, and early literacy.
- Workshops are tailored to individual schools or networks.
- Delivery times are flexible and can be arranged in consultation with our team.
Cost
This service is free and available to public schools. Schools are responsible for any staff relief costs (if applicable).
